Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about LTL freight and your Proload account.

General

How does Proload Express get the lowest LTL rates?
We maintain active partnerships with 200+ vetted LTL carriers. Our combined volume across all customers gives us leverage that individual shippers can't get on their own — and we pass that savings directly to you.
Is there a minimum volume requirement?
No. We work with shippers from 1 shipment/month to 1,000+. There are no minimums and no commitments required.
What is LTL freight?
LTL (Less-than-Truckload) is a shipping method where your freight shares truck space with other companies' freight. It's cost-effective for shipments that don't fill a full trailer — typically 1 to 6 pallets.

Shipping

How do I get a quote?
Fill out our online quote form at /quote. Provide origin/destination ZIPs, freight class, weight, and contact info. You'll receive a quote within 2 business hours.
What is freight class and why does it matter?
NMFC freight class (50-500) is a standardized classification that affects your LTL rate. It's based on density, stowability, handling, and liability. Lower class = lower cost. Incorrect class can result in adjustments at delivery.
What accessorials do you support?
We support all standard accessorials including liftgate, residential delivery, inside delivery, appointment delivery, limited access, freeze protection, sort & segregate, and hazmat handling. These are disclosed upfront in your quote.
What states do you serve?
All 48 contiguous states. We have particularly strong coverage in the Northeast (next-day and 2-day standard service from NJ/NY hub).

Rates & Billing

Are there hidden fees?
No. Your quote includes all applicable charges — base rate, fuel surcharge, and declared accessorials. The only way a charge is added is if an undisclosed accessorial is required at pickup or delivery (e.g., you didn't mention residential delivery).
What is a fuel surcharge?
A fuel surcharge is a variable fee added to base freight rates to offset carrier fuel costs. It's calculated as a percentage of the base rate and fluctuates weekly. It's always included in your Proload quote.
How does billing work?
You receive a consolidated invoice covering all shipments in the billing period. We accept credit card, ACH, and wire transfer. Net-30 terms available for qualified accounts.
Can I get a freight reclassification adjustment?
If a carrier inspects and reclassifies your freight based on actual density, an invoice adjustment may be issued. This is why accurate class declaration is important. We can help you determine the correct class before shipping.

Claims

What do I do if my freight is damaged?
Note the damage on the delivery receipt when signing with the driver. Photograph everything. Contact your Proload account manager within 24 hours. We will file the claim with the carrier on your behalf and track resolution.
How long does a claim take?
Standard carrier liability claims resolve in 30-120 days. Proload advocates aggressively for faster resolution — our average is under 30 days. We provide weekly status updates on all open claims.
What if my freight is lost?
Contact your account manager immediately. Proload will file a claim for the full declared value of the shipment. In the meantime, we will work to locate the shipment through carrier tracing.

Tracking

How do I track my shipment?
Every Proload shipment has a PRO number (carrier tracking number). You can track via the carrier's website or contact your Proload account manager for real-time status.
What is a PRO number?
PRO number is the carrier's assigned tracking identifier for your shipment. It's provided by Proload when your pickup is confirmed.

Account

How do I create an account?
Visit /signup and complete the 2-minute form. Your dedicated account manager will reach out within 24 hours to get you set up.
Do I need an account to get a quote?
No. You can request a one-time quote without an account. But creating a free account gives you faster quoting, shipment history, analytics, and a dedicated account manager.
Can I manage multiple shipping locations?
Yes. Proload accounts support multiple origin locations, billing profiles, and contacts. Your account manager will configure this for you.
